Biography

Manoel Marques Lagoa was a copyist active between c. 1780 and 1810 in the Patriarchal Church, he also apparently worked for the Royal Chapel at Vila Viçosa and at Queluz. His copies of music by Marcos Portugal, dating from the earlier part of Portugal’s career, include the motto ‘F.L.D.V.qMa [Finis Laus Deo Virginique Mariæ]’. He also worked with Joaquim Casimiro da Silva. Receipts containing lists of works copied by Manoel Marques Lagoa, with his signatures, leave little doubt that he is copyist Sé3 in Marques 2012.
