Francisco Domingues Martins Borges was a music copyist associated with Joaquim Casimiro and possibly other Portuguese composers of the mid nineteenth century. His copy of a Hymno de Nôa by Casimiro (P-Ln, F.C.R. 40//7) states that it was copied from the composer’s autograph in Lisbon in November 1858 (‘FDMBorges. cop. do próprio original em Lisboa na Rua das Praças No. 36. - 9.bro de 1858.’). By 1861, he was a priest working as a chaplain at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia at Coruche in the Ribatejo (Correia 2013, p. 75). His copy of a set of Adorações ao SS. Sacramento by Casimiro (P-Ln, F.C.R. 40//2) is dated ‘Coruche Março de 1874’. The principal hand of P-Ln, F.C.R. 40//18, a set of Responsórios para Quarta Feira Santa by Casimiro, could be that of an understudy who worked under Borges’s supervision. Borges frequently signed his copies. Some are stamped ‘Beneficiado Borges’, or inscribed ‘B Borges’, apparently in recognition of a benefice he was the recipient of no later than 1874.
